When you buy a washer, it usually comes with a hose. Most homeowners don’t think much about it and just install it and start using the washer, but are you aware that the washer hose is one of the most common reasons for basement flooding? This is because the hose usually is a low-quality hose that is prone to bursting.
Many leave the water supply for their washer turned on at all times, and that means that the hose is under constant pressure. Of course, this is a bad habit to have, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a higher quality hose installed.
At most hardware stores you can purchase high-quality alternatives that are steel braided. These hoses are made to hold up to much higher pressure than your water line could ever supply.
Despite this, you should make a habit of turning off the water supply whenever your washer isn’t in use. Why take risks unnecessarily?
